Who we are
Jo's calorie counter is run by Harrowtech.ai. Contact: Settings → Help and feedback in the app.
With an account
We store your email address, your password in a scrambled form we cannot read, and a copy of your Jo's calorie counter data: your food log, weights, targets, your own foods and meals, and your answers to the setup questions (sex, age, height, activity and goal).
You need an account to start the free trial. Your log is kept in your browser and backed up to your account.
Food searches send only the words you type (or the barcode) to our server to find foods.
Food and weight logs are health data. We store them only because you agree to it when you create an account, and only to back them up and let you use them on more than one device.
Emails from us
We may email you about Jo's calorie counter: tips, your trial ending, and offers. You can say no when you sign up, turn it off in Settings → Account, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. We never use your food or weight data to choose what to email you.
Help and feedback
When you send us a message, we keep it with your email address, and, if you leave the box ticked, basic app and phone details (never your food or weight data). If Jo's calorie counter crashes, it sends us the error with the same basic details, so we can fix it. An AI helper (via OpenRouter) writes the first reply; a person reads messages that need one.
US users: our consumer health data privacy policy lists the health data we hold and your rights over it.
AI photo logging
When you use Scan my meal, Describe a meal, Scan a label or Recipe Generator, we send that photo or text to OpenRouter, which passes it to an AI model (currently from Google) to estimate the food. We do not keep the photo.
Moving to joscaloriecounter.com (October 2026)
When you tap Open the new app in the old app, it takes along your progress photos and anything not yet backed up. They are locked on your phone before they leave it, and the key stays on your phone, so we cannot see them. They wait on our server until the new app picks them up, are deleted at that moment, and are deleted after 7 days if nothing picks them up.
Where it is kept
On our web host's servers (Krystal Hosting, United Kingdom), including their daily backups.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data or show you ads. We share it with no one else, except the AI service above for the photos or text you choose to send, and where the law requires it.
Your rights
You can export your data at any time (Settings → Export my data). You can delete your account and our copy at any time (Settings → Account and backup → Delete account). You can withdraw your consent by deleting your account. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Our daily backups are kept for 14 days, so a deleted account is gone from them after 14 days. After you delete your account we keep only a scrambled code made from your email address (not the address itself), so the same email cannot start a second free trial.
